Reused Tractor Tires Make Great Garden Beds

If you have some old tractor tires kicking around your yard or the home acre, you can copy this nifty use of the treads by stacking and converting a couple of tires into a garden bed. You do need a fair bit of space to use tires like these. You could of course use smaller tires for the same effect. The bright yellow marigolds look quite handsome trimming the black rubber rims of these two large tires. Stacking the tires adds a nice touch of height, and visitors to your yard will no doubt find this an interesting addition. And you might find it fun to use something old, and make it new again.

As a garden display bed, these large tires would feel a bit oversized for some smaller yards, like my little 50×100 urban lot.

Some folks like to stack tires and use them as potato beds. You could also stack the tires in such a way as to create your own raised beds for just about any vegetables and flowers that you want to plant.

Recycling old tires presents an ongoing challenge for present and future generations. Reusing trumps recycling, and this is kind of like reusing, so have fun with some old stuff and turn in into something interesting to extend the life of that item.

I took the photograph above at the Arnes Farmers’ Market, north of Gimli, Manitoba where I spent a nice afternoon with family members looking through the lovely craft items, poring through old books and treasure hunting among the antiques, and then buying other Farmers’ Market delights before heading back to enjoy some cottage time in little Iceland (Gimli) on Lake Winnipeg.

The Farmers’ Market Association of Manitobawebsite shares information on various local markets that you might want to visit and offers this write-up write-up on the Arnes market:

“Arnes Farmers’ Market  owner Dennis Bobrovich has taken his family farm and converted it into the most amazing farmers’ market.  Experience  fresh homemade donuts, baking, and freshly hand-picked garden veggies, and wander the market and enjoy the creative landscaping along side all the farm animals.”

I particularly enjoyed seeing the piglets and baby goats during my July visit.

The Arnes Farmers’ Market is located 16 km (10 miles) north of Gimli, Manitoba on Highway 222. Hours of operation are posted on the Manitoba Farmers’ Market website.
